The ball would drift out and can spin in a bit - but not as much as side-spin, and usually carries on. So the seam is almost parallel to the ground on a horizontal axis. The wrist is slid under the ball (the palm in effect faces the sky) and the fingers grip the seam, basically. The idea behind undercutting is to get the ball drift away from the right handers and get the ball to usually slide on with the angle. And he isn’t too impressed with the round-the-stumps line. Sriram Veera: Former India spinner and selector Sunil Joshi reckons the Australian off spinners (especially Todd Murphy) aren’t being too effective for couple of reasons: They are undercutting the ball rather than impart more side-spin.
